Building Compliance Management Tool which automates reports, manuals, inspections, alerts and more
Managing Building Compliance doesn’t have to be hard says the Sale-based founder of ESMWiz, Rajender Singh. From safety manuals on the go to managing inspection tasks on the run, ESMWiz software manages essential safety measure compliance obligation in an easy and organised way by automating reports, manuals, inspections, alerts and more. We sat down with Rajender to chat about his experience undertaking Startup Gippsland program earlier this year.
Startup Gippsland: Let's get to it! How did you learn about Startup Gippsland and what was your first thought about it?
Raj: I learned about the Startup Gippsland from advertisements in Gippsland Times Newspaper. I found it interesting and unique.
Startup Gippsland: Why did you want to join the program? What was the problem you were trying to solve?
Raj: I wanted to join the program so that I could learn how I could move forward with my idea. The problem was the non-existence of a tool for managing essential safety measure compliance for the building or multiple buildings. All the players in the market provide service like logbook printing or provide consultancy and so on, but nobody provides any tool which a contractor, manager or owner can use to manage their compliance without sharing their customer or their own information. It was something like you cannot do anything on your own unless you go through some third party.
Raj: I had a very good and fruitful experience. The best part of the program was meeting like-minded people who are full of passion for their idea and have a hunger for achieving something different. Everybody has some story to share and inspire others. When I started I had an idea but no direction or people to look forward to but by the end of the program, I was inspired, have friends who are willing to help and looking forward to my success. Throughout the program, we learnt different techniques, ideas and thought processes, which we can use in any stage, from validating the idea to actually running our business.
Startup Gippsland: What are the biggest benefits of you undertaking the program? Can you provide an example of how it worked for you?
Raj: Once again I feel meeting a like-minded group of passionate people was the biggest benefit for me as it kept me inspired in spirit. Group of passionate people apart from participant include Elena Kelareva, Stephanie Thoo and Aldona Kmiec, our instructors. One example is my first opening lead. After learning the customer interview technique and inspiration from Elena & Stephanie, I went to Wellington Shire and met Building Surveyor, which gave me further lead. In the end, I currently have my pilot program running with the Wellington Shire. I feel this would not have been possible without this program.
Raj: Yes, initially I was targeting building owners, but slowly I discover my main customer are Council, Building Facility Managers, Contractors, Hospitals and so on. Yes, I am still pursuing my original idea. You can check www.esmwiz.com.au to get more idea about my product.
Raj: Professionally, pushing the idea to the first release of the software and then implementing the pilot program at Wellington Shire was the biggest success after undertaking this program.
Personally I feel giving actual shape to an idea and actually seeing somebody using and appreciating it, gives me great satisfaction.
Raj: Thought process from problem to value proposition of an idea is the No 1 skill that I learned. It helped me do a writeup, design logo or do talking about my product as it helps me understand what exactly I am doing.
Raj: Thanks Startup Gippsland for your continuing moral support!

"Having survived the startup phase in business, I was keen to take part in Startup Gippsland to help support someone else bring their dream to life. Getting a business off the ground is hard work, and most people fail. If I can help someone else start up a successful business through what I've learned along the way, then that's a big win!"
