Startup Gippsland: Can we have your first + last name please? Tell us a bit about your startup baby, what is its name and how was it conceived? How would you pitch your startup to a potential client?

Casey: It was conceived from the realisation that organisations were asking for my services directly to the recruitment agency who were getting a cut of my services so I cut the middle man, simple as that! When meeting clients for the first time that it’s not just about planning an event but I want to help them build something that will leave their audience thinking “wow”. An event that has the foundations to be sustainable for future years to come.

Startup Gippsland: How did you learn about Startup Gippsland and what was your first thought about it?

Casey: I found out about the program through an old colleague working in State Government. At first I thought it was more for people with a tech product or service, similar to the stuff coming out of Silicon Valley and didn’t think my business would fit the criteria but after attending the information since realised that wasn’t the case.

Startup Gippsland: Why did you want to join the program? What was the problem you were trying to solve?

Casey: I wanted to learn how to think of my business more in-depth, more strategically. Laying the foundations to build a business that would last and not just in the “now”. I learnt so many great ways of how to develop and grown my business with tools such as the lean canvas. It’s not just coming up with a business plan and leaving it at that.

Startup Gippsland: What was your experience like in the 12 weeks of the program?

Casey: When I first started the program I felt a tad overwhelmed starting a business, and still do at times, but I left the program armed with a stack of great information and tools I can continue to refer to as well as the support from the Startup Gippsland community I can face the challenges of running a startup more confidentiality.

Startup Gippsland: What are the biggest benefits of you undertaking the SUG Program? Can you provide an example of how it worked for you?

Casey: The future business leads I have gained from the program has been incredible along with the startup community and mentors that have provided invaluable support.

Startup Gippsland: Have you discovered new or different users for your product/service, compared with original expectations? Are you still pursuing your original startup idea? If not, what is your new initiative (name) and where can we find it online?

Casey: I’m still doing what I set out to do but it has got me thinking of new ways to run the business and other ventures that could increase revenue and productivity for the business.

Startup Gippsland: What was your biggest success after undertaking the program? Personal or professional (or both)! Please elaborate.

Casey: Working on my first event for the business overseas. It was amazing! Having a client that has faith in the work that I do and providing me with such an incredible experience was a “pitch yourself” moment.

Startup Gippsland: What was the Nr 1 skill you’ve learnt, and a realisation you’ve had during/after the program?

Casey: Not a skill but more confidence and reassurance knowing that what I can offer is of value and an asset to the community.

Startup Gippsland: Anything you’d like to add?

Casey: From the program I’ve realised that I can create so much more than just an events company. I have so many ideas and excited to see what the next few years brings!
