The Amazing Anatomy program teaches young children how the main body systems work, linking the effects our health choices make, delivered in a fun and interactive way. Amazing Anatomy health education sessions are designed for pre-school to prep aged children. Each session runs for approximately 45 minutes and includes basic information about the main systems of our body, followed by a fun and interactive game related to that system.
Startup Gippsland: Let’s get to it! How did you learn about Startup Gippsland and what was your first thought about it?
Kerstyn: I saw an advertisement for it in our local paper, and thought it would be a wonderful opportunity for me to develop my business skills and learn how to become a successful entrepreneur.
The idea came to me when my children were young and I realised how strongly I wanted to help children embrace their health and wellbeing. We are in a health epidemic, our children are on the trajectory to not outlive their parents! We know that the habits and beliefs children learn at a young age can mould their choices into adulthood, so it’s critical that we help them set up positive, strong and healthy foundations. The Amazing Anatomy program teaches young children how the main body systems work, linking the effects our health choices make, delivered in a fun and interactive way.
Startup Gippsland: Why did you want to join the program? What was the problem you were trying to solve?
Kerstyn: I wanted to join the program because I knew I needed the support, knowledge and advice from business experts to help me develop my business.
Startup Gippsland: What was your experience like in the 12 weeks of the program?
Kerstyn: My experience with the program was incredible! My mentor was, and still is, absolutely brilliant and so supportive! Her advice, knowledge, insight and encouragement is invaluable. My confidence grew throughout the 12 weeks and I felt more able to achieve my goals.
Startup Gippsland: What are the biggest benefits of you undertaking the program? Can you provide an example of how it worked for you?
Kerstyn: The biggest benefit of the program for me was the mentorship. Having one on one guidance that was specific to my business and field helped me to understand the aspects of running a successful business a lot clearer.
Startup Gippsland: Have you discovered new or different users for your product/service, compared with original expectations? Are you still pursuing your original startup idea?
Kerstyn: Yes, the SUG facilitators and my mentor helped me to identify other opportunities within my business. I am still pursuing my original startup idea, and incorporating the new avenues.
Startup Gippsland: What was your biggest success after undertaking the program? Personal or professional (or both)!
Kerstyn: My biggest successes from this program would have to be my understanding of my business and my personal growth. I now feel confident to be able to grow Amazing Anatomy because I understand what it takes to run a successful startup and how to achieve my goals.
Startup Gippsland: what was the most important skill you’ve learnt, and a realisation you’ve had during/after the program?
Kerstyn: The number one skill I’ve learnt would be how to articulate the problem I’m solving and why it’s so important. I realised I needed to find a clearer and more concise way to explain my business and why it’s beneficial.
Startup Gippsland: anything else you’d like to add?
Kerstyn: Thank you for accepting me into this incredible program! It has opened so many doors and lead me to opportunities I wouldn’t have been able to access without you! The support from the facilitators, my mentor and the whole Startup Gippsland family has been wonderful! I’m excited for the future, and for the Amazing Anatomy Health Education Program to inspire, encourage and support students throughout Australia to embrace their health and wellbeing!
